A new study finds drinking moderate amounts of coffee every day could lower your risk for heart failure.

Researchers in Boston looked at five large studies on coffee consumption and its affect on the heart.

They found two cups of coffee a day lowered the risk for heart failure by as much as 11 percent.

But this isn't a situation where more is better, as they found drinking more than five cups a day had no benefit and could even be harmful.

Also in news concerning the heart, popular cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins appear to help patients lower their risk for heart attacks, among other major health problems.

Researchers at Columbia University found taking statins could lower the risk for any heart-related event, including heart attack and death.

Overall, doctors say statins appear safe and have the potential to make a significant impact on heart health.

Finally, as those low-carb, high-protein diets become more popular, new evidence reveals they may cause health problems in women.

A study of over 40,000 Swedish women found those who regularly ate a low-carb diet were 28 percent more likely to develop cardiovascular disease than those who did not.

Researchers say while the numbers are small, they're still concerning because so many women are exposed to these diets.

They say women should stick with plant based proteins and not cut out complex carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables.
