LR Marathoners Prepare for Cold Weather

By: Dustin Barnes
Updated: March 4, 2013
On the eve of the marathon, it's a party with a purpose. It's pigging out on protein.

"Today it's anything I want to eat, try to top it off with this," Todd Pippin said.

In between the chewing, the chatting often leads to Sunday's weather. Just the thought of twenties and thirties made runners look for winter weather as they push through the finish line.

"I've got my cold gear, hat, gloves. After four or five miles, it won't matter anyway," Pippin said.

Pippin doesn't expect to wear his layers for long. It's even a place for him to get rid of all the gear. It's on the route! Waste Management will pick up the sweaty clothes, wash them, and deliver them to local charities.

"I think that's a good cause. I think it's a great thing to do for the discarded clothes," Tomiaka Coker said.

But because of the temps, don't be surprised to see some runners keep it all on as they trek it to the end.
