I Race for My Mother, My Hero -
Tina McFadden
I race because my mother was
diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2001 a few days before Mother`s Day.. I
remember when she found the lump and she asked me to feel it, I said yea, there
is a lump. She went and had it checked out and the next thing you know we were
waiting on a phone call to see if she had cancer. I remember going over to the
house and my dad was sitting on the back patio. I asked my mother have they
called yet. I asked her a few times, she finally looked me in the eye and said
yes, they called I do have cancer, I am just trying to figure out how to tell
your dad. I said she has cancer and she is not concerned with her self right
now she is concerned about somebody else. That`s the kind of person she is
always putting others first. My mother went through kemo and radiation, she
once said she thanked GOD for cancer, i said she must be losing it, but she said
it only brought her closer to GOD and showed his awesome power. My mother is
doing great today and she is truly blessed by GOD. My mother is kind, loving,
giving, she is my hero, when I grow up I want to be just like her. The race is
on my birthday, and the greatest gift to me on that day is to be able to walk in
the race with my mother with her being cancer free.
