Because My Race is a Daily One -
Margie Davis, Two Year Survivor
A Race for a Cure and So Much
More...I was one of those who did not get mammograms yearly. I had one at forty
and the next one was when I was turning 47 and found a lump. No biopsies was
needed because of the characteristics of the large mass and surgery was
scheduled. The cancer had spread to my lymph nodes and chemo and radiation
would follow. I will race on October 7th to help raise funds to find a cure,
but my race is a daily one. I race to tell others to not wait to have their
mammograms. I race to reach out to other survivors and talk of hope and one day
of finding a cure. I race with my co-workers who took my workload during my
treatments and walk with me each year. I race for my husband who kissed my bald
head and told me I was beautiful. I race for my son who gave up more than any
11 year old should. I race because I am here this year. We know not what the
future holds, but on October 7 I plan to be there in the midst of the pink and
walking among some of the bravest women you will ever meet. I count myself
lucky to join them.
