My Mother and Aunt are SURVIVORS!!!
- Amanda Bailey/Glenwood, AR
The reason I race is to support my
mother and aunt in their fight against breast cancer. They are SURVIVORS!!!!
However, both of them are still battling the side effects of treatment and the
medications the are having to take afterwards. My grandmother also had breast
cancer, but she passed away this spring. I have participated in the race for
two years. This year will be my third. When I see all of the people going over
the bridge and others starting over the next bridge, it is truly amazing. My
mother, Marilyn Warren, and I usually walk hand-in-hand and shed tears of
amazement, joy, and gratitude all at the same time. My Mom is truly an
outstanding woman. She has taught elementary school for 28 years, and she never
stopped through the surgeries and treatments. During chemo, she lost all of her
hair, but she kept going to school. She would take time out of class the let
the children see and touch her head. It was a learning experience for them and
humbling her. Also, she is a true believer in God. My Mom`s faith is stronger
than ever. This experience has also strengthen mine. I am so glad to be the
daughter, niece, and granddaughter of such great women. May God bless each and
every woman, and her fight with breast cancer.
