My Family Has Battled Cancer Time and Time Again  -  Megan

I just wanted to take a minute to tell you why I race.  My name is Megan Brown and I`m a 24 year old student at UAMS.  I see endless numbers of women going into and out of the breast cancer center in the Arkansas Cancer Research Center at UAMS.  That`s not the real reason I race though.  My mom is one of five girls in her family.  She was in the middle with her twin sister.  Sixteen years ago at the age of thirty six, my aunt, my moms twin sister, lost her battle with breast cancer.  In fact, my mom`s oldest sister has had to have a biopsy done to see if her lump was benign or malignant.  Thankfully, it was benign.  My mom`s youngest sister has also had to have biopsies to see if her lumps were benign or malignant.  Thankfully, hers too were benign.  Out of five girls, three have had some bout with breast cancer.

After seeing how my aunt that passed suffered through this terrible illness, I would gladly get up early, fight for a parking spot and be engulfed in thousands of people if it helps find a cure!!!  Thanks!!
