My Mom, The Fighter - Ann Works
Around 7 years ago my mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She did the usual treatments and her cancer went into remission for almost 5 years and then in April 2006 her cancer came back not only in her breast but also her lungs, liver and a small spot on her sternum.
My mother is so awesome and is one tuff cookie. While enduring Chemotherapy and losing again, she managed to get married to a wonderful man and is living her life to the fullest. She has not and will not let this cancer get her down. While her story sounds wonderful, last December we got the news that her one drug Herceptin stopped working but that there was another drug that she could take with the combination of another drug(Tykerb & Xeloda). The combination gives women around 8.4 months before their cancer starts to spread again. This past week my mother reached the 8.5 month mark and the doctors found that her cancer has spread to her brain. Do you think this has set her back? No.
My mother being who she says that she isn't worried she just doesn't want to get "Puffy" because they are doing radiation and has to take a steroid and she has lost 50 lbs and she got rid of all of her fat clothes.
I have to tell you that my mother is my hero, my best friend my sister in Christ forever. I race for her. And when I finish in the top 50 my medal goes to her because she is the true winner and survivor.
