Hancock
Action PG-13
Mr. 4th
of July is back, Will Smith pairs up with Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron in
an unconventional superhero movie. While definitely funny at times the movie it has a
serious side not revealed in the previews. Hancock is a superhero trying to
find his true path and acceptance in a world where he is very different and
unpopular. Bateman's roll is a somewhat idealistic public relations person who
wants to change the world for the better and finds his way by helping Hancock
straighten out his life and find his true purpose. Theron plays Bateman's wife.
She has a secret past that is connected to Hancock. Even though Bateman is
playing a character with no superpowers in many ways he comes off as the
biggest hero of the movie. His faith and heroics by the end of the movie bring
about the salvation of both Hancock and Theron. You could say he is the man
behind the superhero. The general message of the movie appeared to be that one
normal man while maybe not able to change the entire world on a grand scale can
make a difference by helping one person.
Overall
one would not say that this is Smith's biggest or best July 4th offering but it
was an somewhat entertaining flick with a nice little message. It could not be
recommended for young children due to violence and language.
