When you're shopping for appliances, there are two things to consider: the price tag and the cost of operating the appliance.
First, start your research early.
Consider features, prices and warranties.
Determine the best time of year to buy.
For example, buy microwaves and room air conditioners in the spring, refrigerators right before Memorial Day and your new washer and dryer in September.
Also, look for scratched and dented appliances.
Sometimes the retailer will mark down the price, but still sell the appliance with the same warranty.
Or, you can buy a floor model.
And, save on energy costs by looking for the energy star label.
