pocketbookThe way you cook and clean up in the kitchen can cost you money and the environment. What can you change? Dishwasher. Stove. Microwave…three major appliances most of us use daily, and ones we could use more wisely to save both money and the environment. Start with your dishwasher. Don't run it half-empty. Run it only when it's full and you'll save up to 20-gallons of water per load. That's 73-hundred gallons a year -- about half the water you'll drink in a lifetime! And that's not all: "We recommend you don't bother pre-rinsing your dishes, if that works for you, it's just a waste of water." Ever put a small pot on a large burner? That boils down to lost money! Fit the pot to the burner, you could save about up to $36 bucks a year. We all know microwaves cook faster, but did you know they can be nearly five times more energy-efficient than a traditional oven? Zapping meals more often can reduce up to 70-percent of energy used for cooking. Plus, cleaning a microwave is fast and easy. No energy wasted on running a self-cleaning oven, and no need for toxic-chemical oven cleaners.
