LITTLE ROCK, AR - A man accused of robbing a store on the city's southwest side is recovering from a gunshot wound after firing a shot as he tried to get away and a store worker returned fire.

It happened Thursday night just before 8:30 in the 4700 block of W. Baseline Road at the Santa Maria Mexican Store.

The Little Rock Police Department says Alvin Aikens, 21, was shot in the leg.

Aikens is charged with aggravated robbery, theft, and fleeing.

Police say Aikens walked into the store and put a gun to one worker's back before demanding money from the register and grabbing the cash himself.

Several shell casings were found outside the store, along with the suspect's cell phone, police say.
