LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Physicians and others spent Monday in Little Rock discussing what can be done to curb the quickly growing prescription drug problem in the U.S.

Their recommendations will help establish guidelines for doctors in emergency departments.

"We're developing what's called a 'prescription drug-monitoring program,' so that doctors will be able to access a database to make sure patients aren't getting drugs from several doctors," says Dr. Gene Shelby, President of the Arkansas Medical Society.

Monday's event was spearheaded by the National Governors' Association.
