Students studying Arkansas' natural gas industry to be awarded record-breaking number of scholarships
Scholarship Fund Board also to announce early capital campaign contribution
What:
The largest scholarship donation in the history of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton's (UACCM) Petroleum Technology program will be announced by leaders of the Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund and University of Arkansas administrators. The Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund encourages and enables students to pursue educational opportunities that prepare them for jobs in the oil and gas industry. The Fund is supported by members representing companies that work in the Fayetteville Shale play. The Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund Board will also announce a $110,000 contribution to UACCM's capital campaign.
Why:
UACCM is the only college in Arkansas with a petroleum technology associate degree program. The program was established in 2006 and continues to lead in the state by training the highly specialized workforce needed to support the natural gas industry. To date, 429 petroleum technology students have received FSSF scholarships.
Who:
University of Arkansas System President Dr. Donald R. Bobbitt and UACCM Chancellor Dr. Larry Davis will address attendees regarding their partnership with the Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund. Remarks will be made by a 2012-13 scholarship recipient. Others in attendance include UACCM faculty and staff, Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund Board members and supporters, and Arkansas Department of Higher Education Interim Director Shane Broadway.
