Labor groups are rallying at the state capitol against the so-called "sequester," the automatic cuts in federal spending that are set to take effect Friday night because the President and Congress have been unable to reach a deal on a long-term budget.

The sequester could indiscriminately carve $85 billion from the federal budget, affecting everything from air-traffic controllers to head-start programs for preschoolers.

"It's going to be massive cuts, huge cuts, and a lot of people are saying, 'Well that may not affect me,' but make no mistake: it's going to effect us all," says Candice Collins with Americans for Tax Fairness.

Experts say this is different from the so-called "fiscal cliff" we dealt with around the New Year because these cuts are expected to be gradual over time.
