A former Little Rock police officer pleads not guilty on manslaughter charges in connection to the death of a teenage boy.

Josh Hastings appeared before a Pulaski County judge Thursday morning.

He said he acted in self defense when he shot at 15-year-old Bobby Moore last August while Moore and two other boys were breaking into a car at a west Little Rock apartment complex.

Moore's family tells KARK all they can hope now is that justice is served.

"My little brother didn't get to see Christmas. He didn't get to see his birthday. He didn't get to see New Year's or anything. This man is still out here able to see his family," the victim's sister said.

Hastings told investigators he shot because Moore was driving toward him, but police say evidence shows Moore was driving away from him.

His trial is set to start June 18.
