Police Officer and his Dog Catch Benton Burglary Suspect

BENTON, AR - A Benton Police sergeant and his dog caught a burglary suspect Saturday night running away from the Benton Antique Mall.

The sergeant and "Lucky" responded to the business alarm to find Terry Johnson, 53, leaving out the back of the business, according to police. After telling Johnson to stop, both the sergeant and Lucky chased the suspect. Lucky sustained a minor injury from a barbed wire fence, but otherwise, Johnson was taken into custody without incident.

Police also arrested James Deaton, 55, in connection with the suspected burglary. Both Johnson and Deaton are parole out of the Department of Community Corrections, according to police.

Johnson is charged with fleeing, public intoxication, refusal to submit to arrest, commercial burglary, theft of property, first degree criminal mischief, and possession of an instrument of a crime.

Deaton is charged with commercial burglary and theft of property.
