Arkansans Pack Stores, Gas Stations Before Winter Weather Hits

Shoppers had to bring some patience to the Edwards Food Giant grocery store as they rushed to get everything for a possible bout of cabin fever.

"It looks like the kids might be out of school so we got some snacks, chips, and a few drinks," Michael Watkins said.

Watkins racked up on his kids' favorites just in case he can't get out.  He just hopes it doesn't turn into the Christmas storm where he and his family lost power for days!

"We need a couple of candles, a few batteries, generator," Watkins said.

From the grocery store to the gas station, drivers hope to get ahead the storm by topping off.

"We're trying to get all this taken care of, get to the house, and that will make for less problems we can have," Jeffery Clark said.

Many at the North Little Rock gas station hope they're doing all of this in vain, especially Richard Whittle.  For the self-employed contractor, it costs him when the weather is far from dry and warm.

"Whatever it takes, I gotta do it whether it's storming, sleeting, or hurricane weather," Whittle said.

Shoppers have to dig deeper, too, and the proof is in the receipt for all that bread, milk, and eggs.

"It's the middle of the week and you're buying groceries, plus the kids are home in the middle of the week. That's extra," Watkins said.
