Pre-registration for the Scholars Program at Mills University Studies High School in the Pulaski County Special School District gets underway tonight.

The Mills University Studies High School Scholars Program offers a wide selection of rigorous courses and learning experiences designed to meet the academic needs of the talented and gifted student. The goal of the program is to prepare young people to successfully meet the demands of the most selective colleges and universities.

The faculty members are trained in gifted education, to better educate their students. The scholars program also offers over twenty advance placement courses through which student can gain college credit.

The Scholars Program became part of the school in 1994. Mills' excellence has been acclaimed by Newsweek magazine, which has included the school as one of the best high schools in the nation since 2000 when the magazine first began publishing a list.

The schedule for pre-registration is as follows:
  • Today - 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Current Talented and Gifted Specialty Program 8th-grade students)
  • Wednesday - 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Current 9th and 10th grade students)
  • Monday (February 25) - 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  (Current 11th-grade students)
Pre-registration will take place at Mills University Studies High School, 1205 East Dixon Road, in Little Rock, in the Commons Area.

Faculty and counselors will be present to advise students in their course selection for the 2013-14 school year, and assist them and their parents in completing the registration process.

District officials say that if the assigned evening does not work for parents and students, they may come on one of the other evenings.
