AR Dept. of Emergency Management Hosts Earthquake Damage Control Class

In the event of an earthquake, are you and your home or business prepared?
The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management hosted a class on Friday to help people reduce the amount of non-structural damage, should the big one hit.
That means things like electrical or plumbing systems, furniture, fixtures and other equipment need to be secured.
"Most injuries we see in America from earthquakes are caused by things falling on people, and that's what this class is designed to do is teach professionals to build safer buildings and reduce the risks from earthquake shaking," says program coordinator Brian Blake.
There's about a 25 to 40 percent chance of a damaging earthquake hitting the New Madrid Region, which includes Central Arkansas.
