Arkansas Cities Rank Amongst Most Dangerous

By: Karoline Wightman
Updated: February 7, 2013
New crime statistics place some Arkansas cities in the most dangerous category.

Little Rock ranks as the eighth most dangerous city in America. Pine Bluff comes in at number two.

The rankings are calculated using six basic crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and vehicle theft. Little Rock Police say violent crime is down, but property theft is up.

Rebecca Lewis says she feels safe, even after dark downtown Little Rock.

Although the study shows Little Rock is one of the most dangerous cities in the country, Raymond Wyles says he knows which areas are safe, and which areas have crime problems. "The eastside, Roosevelt area, and John Barrow is pretty bad."

No one wants their city to have that kind of reputation, but Greg Wallis says it's all about being aware. "Is it dangerous? I've lived downtown Little Rock for 10 years and never had a problem. You just have to be aware of your surroundings. "

Despite the new report, Little Rock Police say violent crime is actually down 13 percent. Sgt. Cassandra Davis says the department is working on decreasing property crime. "We are doing pretty good as far as crime is concerned. A lot of people are more concerned with violent crime when it comes to crime statistics, and we are down in that area. "

Patricia Brown says while she's aware of the hard numbers, she still feels safe, and doesn't worry too much about it.

Carla Rackley has worked downtown LIttle Rock for 13 years and says she's never had a issue. "I come and go day and night, the middle of the night, and sometimes early in the morning. I've never had a problem. "

The Mayor of Pine Bluff nor the Chief of Police have commented on the crime statistics.
