Central Arkansas Development Council Offers Tax Tips

Tax season opens in less than a week and while it opened a bit later this year it  gives you more time to get your paper work in order.
 
Robin Freeman, planning director with the Central Arkansas Development Council, offers a few tax tips .

• What is the biggest tax credit people miss out on?
  EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT

            Many people qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).  EITC is a refundable credit for low to moderate income working individuals. For families with 3 or more children making around $50,000, it could be more than $5800 extra on your federal tax return. Even if you're not married, you may still qualify for the credit. Many people don't know they qualify for the credit or don't get the credit because they don't file a return or file incorrectly.

• What do you need to bring?

            Social security cards for yourself, spouse and all dependents   
            Picture ID
            Forms W-2 for every placed worked in 2012
           Forms 1099
           A copy of last year's return if possible
            Proof of account for direct deposit (voided check, deposit slip)
            Any other information to help us prepare your return.
The CADC offers sites in 10 counties (Pulaski, Saline, Clark, Hot Spring, Pike, Montgomery, Dallas, Union, Columbia & Ouachita)
