Update: Identity Released of Driver Killed in I-40 Accident in Conway County

Update (January 23):
The Arkansas State Police (ASP) has released the identity of a driver killed in a Tuesday morning crash on Interstate 40 in Conway County.

The ASP accident report states that Richard L. Barnes, 58, of Oxford, Mississippi, was driving a 2011 Subaru SUV eastbound when his vehicle crossed the median around 9:30 and collided with a semi truck headed west on the freeway.

The 2002 Kenworth tractor trailer was driven by Varun Sharma, 25, of Moreno Valley, California. He was not injured in the accident.

Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene. at 9:49 a.m.

According to the Magnolia Reporter, Barnes was a University of Mississippi law professor. Click here for the newspaper's report on Professor Barnes.

One person is reported killed in a traffic accident along Interstate 40 in Conway County.

It happened around 9:30 this morning in the westbound lanes at the Menifee exit.

The accident involved a car and a tractor trailer rig, according to the Petit Jean Country Headlight, a KARK 4 News Content Partner. The car was demolished in the wreck.

The Headlight's Larry Miller tells KARK 4 News that the accident backed up interstate traffic for quite some time. He says the Arkansas State Police is still investigating the accident and has not yet released any information.
