A missing shotgun belonging to the Benton County Sheriff's Office has been found.
Officials say it has been recovered near Bella Vista.
The weapon was lost Wednesday after a part-time deputy left it on his patrol car's roof and then drove away.
Sheriff Kelley Cradduck says the deputy, Mark Heiner, was fired after the incident.
Original story (January 18):
A Benton County Sheriff's Deputy is in hot water after losing a department-issued shotgun.
The Sheriff asked his part-time division to bring all their gear in so he could take an inventory, but when one of those part time deputies left, he forgot to put away his shotgun.
Sheriff Kelley Cradduck says part-time Deputy Mark Heiner left the 12-gauge on the roof of his car as he left the station Wednesday night.
Deputies spent hours searching for the weapon but it never turned up.
Cradduck reportedly plans to fire Heiner for the mistake.
