The Benton Police Department (BPD) has made three arrests in a stolen vehicle case.

William Looney, 29, along with Chelsea Smith and Tamara Hamilton, both 21, were picked up after an early morning traffic stop on Wednesday.

The BPD says just before 4:30, an officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area of America's Best Inn at 1221 Hot Springs Hwy. After checking the license plate on the vehicle it was discovered it had been reported stolen.

After officers started talking to the suspects in the vehicle, police say Looney tried to run away. He was immediately caught and taken into custody, along with Smith and Hamilton.

Looney is charged with Theft by Receiving, Escape, Driving on Suspended Driver's License, and Fleeing.  Smith and Hamilton are both charged with Theft by Receiving.
