Schedule Set for Northwest Arkansas Road Construction Projects

After Arkansas voters approved a half-cent sales tax in November, we now have a more detailed idea of when we might see highway construction get underway.
This year, five out of 17 Interstate 540 projects will get underway: two in Benton County and three in Washington County.
The first planned is the Don Tyson interchange in Springdale, scheduled to begin this spring.
This summer, plans to widen 540 between Highway 16 and Porter Road in Fayetteville are scheduled to begin.
The other three projects are planned for late 2013, and include improving exit 69 and the Greathouse Springs Road interchange, exit 73 and the Elm Springs Road interchange and widening I-540 from Wagon Wheel Road to Highway 264 in Benton County.
Much of the expansion and widening projects are being funded by both the half-cent sales tax approved in November and the Interstate Rehabilitation Program passed in 2011.
All 17 projects will start in the next five years, and all are scheduled to be finished in the next 10 years.
However, right now not all projects have a projected start date.
