The 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team responded to the task by standing up five teams and a total of 16 military vehicles and 32 Soldiers prepared to support stranded motorists along Arkansas highways if necessary.
The first call for assistance came late this afternoon with a team of eight Soldiers and four vehicles now supported the Arkansas State Police along a 40-mile stretch of Interstate 40 east of Lonoke.
The Soldiers are tasked to patrol the interstate where a combination of construction and icy roads has reportedly left traffic backed up for miles.
The Soldiers are tasked to seek and assist motorists in need of help due to the severe weather conditions.
The mission duration is unknown at this time. The additional four teams remain on standby.
