Arkansas House Speaker Makes Committee Appointments

Carter's address of the Arkansas House ushers in his role as Speaker of the House for the 89th General Assembly.
Both the Arkansas House and the Arkansas Senate met briefly after swearing-in ceremonies for new members on the first day of a regular session of the legislature.
"Every time you push that button, you push that button for 30,000 Arkansans," Carter told his colleagues, before moving on to the first order of business.
Carter made the following committee appointments:
- Buddy Johnson announced as Parliamentarian.
- Rep. Darrin Williams announced as Speaker Pro-Tempore.
- Rep. Reginald Murdock, Rep. Ann Clemmer, Rep. Micah Neal, and Rep. Bruce Cozart asst. Speaker Pro-Temps
- Liasons to Senate: Rep. Denny Altes, Rep. Hank Wilkins, Rep. Sheilla Lampkin, Rep. Chris Richey, Rep. Randy Alexander.
- Rep. James McLean chair of Education committee. Rep. Ann Clemmer vice-chair.
- Rep. Marshall Wright chair of Judiciary. Rep. John Vines vice chair.
- Rep. John Burris chair of Public Health. Rep. Reginald Murdock vice chair.
- Rep. Jonathan Barnett chair of Public Transportation. Rep. Walls McCrary vice-chair.
- Rep. John Edwards named chair of Arkansas Legislative Council. Rep. Terry Rice vice chair.
- Rep. Kim Hammer to chair Legislative Joint Audit. Rep. John Walker vice-chair.
- Rep. Duncan Baird to chair Joint Budget. Rep. Hank Wilkins-vice chair.
- Rep. Charlie Collins named chair of Revenue and Tax committee. Rep. Joe Jett is Vice Chair
- Rep. Meeks named as chair of Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Miltary Affairs. Rep. Warwick Sabin is Vice-Chair.
- Rep. Matthew Shepherd named chair of Agri, Forestry and Economic Development. Rep. Nate Steel is Vice-Chair.
- Rep. David Fielding named chair of City, County and Local Affairs. Rep. Eddie Armstrong is vice-chair.
- Rep. Tommy Wren named chair of Insurance and Commerce. Rep. Robert Dale is vice-chair.
- Rep. Andrea Lea named chair of State Agencies and Governmental Affairs. Rep. Wilkins is vice-chair.
The Arkansas House adjourned shortly before two o'clock this afternoon. They will return to work on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, in the Arkansas Senate, Sen. Bryan King introduced one of the first bills of the session, SJR 1 would require voters to show a photo ID. The bill has been referred to the State Agencies Committee for action.
