The Lonoke Sheriff's Office reports not as many people as expected are signing on to the state's new Smart 911 system.

Last year, Arkansas joined a growing list of state's that are using this high-tech system.

The strictly voluntary program allows people to notify first responders of critical information such as having a loved one with special needs or a serious medical condition so that firefighters and police will know in advance what they are dealing with in a crisis situation.

The sheriff's office says people are telling them they are concerned about their privacy being breached even though the information is secure.
