Update: Hampton Voters Elect Rick Shiron Mayor

Update (January 9):
Hampton (Calhoun County) voters have elected a new mayor.

Rick Shiron won the office Tuesday night with 184 votes.

Candidates Floyd Gresham had 70 votes and Darrell Donaldson, Jr. had 14 votes.

The special election was the result of the resignation of former mayor Phillip Swofford last Fall.

Mayor-elect Shiron will be sworn-in on Monday night during the city council meeting.

Hampton will have a special election Tuesday to elect a mayor to replace former Mayor Phillip Swofford.

Three names are on the ballot for the position.

The special election is a result of Swofford resigning last fall after controversy surrounding his competency to lead the city.

Hours for voting are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Calhoun County Courthouse.
