The Carroll County Sheriff says 21-year-old Laura Aceves was found lying in a pool of blood in her apartment on Highway 62 West around 12:40 Monday afternoon.
Aceves, who appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Rogers, where she later died. While serving a search warrant at the woman's home, investigators located a .22 caliber round.
Sheriff Robert T. Grudek says a metal object was also lodged in her head.
An 18-year-old man was named a possible suspect and arrested at a different address on Highway 62 West in Berryville for violation of a no-contact order. Officers say they found the suspect hiding in a shower with the handgun.
Aceves' body has been sent to the Arkansas State Police medical examiner's office in Little Rock for an autopsy.
Sheriff Grudek says his office is awaiting results to determine if murder charges should be filed.
