"I think probably for the past six months I let things go...but now I'm serious," said New Year's Day gym-goer Miriam Lawrence.
The resolutions are in full effect. Many Arkansans determined to start 2013 on the right foot...followed by the left.
"We've had a lot of people coming in just as soon as we opened up at 8 this morning," said 10 Fitness Assistant Manager, Matt Reynolds. "Just coming in to knock out their New Year's resolution and I think they're ready to work off some holiday pounds and just kind of get back into it."
"I ate a lot of sweets. At work, at home, now it's time to put them down," said Lawrence.
"This is not my first time on New Year's to be in a gym, and it typically starts off kind of busy this way," said 10 Fitness member, Adam Brown. "Kind of jump starts you. It's new. If you've been slacking off, if you haven't been doing the program. If you hadn't been doing what you need to do it's a great time to start and get motivated."
"There's no holiday," said gym member, Jason Lawrence. "The holiday was Christmas and Thanksgiving. This is a new year."
The new year begins with gym-goers extra motivated to hit the weights, as many were recently cooped up in the house with no electricity.
"The major power outages. I had four days off then, and that was four days too many so really I'm trying to catch up," said Tanika Pittman.
"I was home bound for about three days and I couldn't wait to get out...so I could come to the gym," said Margie Wesinger.
But like every New Year's resolution, the biggest challenge of all, is to stick with it.
"I think if I can do it the first couple of weeks, I think I'll keep it going," said Lawrence.
"I believe the way that you go in, is the way that you'll finish."
