Baxter County: Woman Found With Head Injuries Dies, Man Arrested

A woman is dead and a man behind bars as the Baxter County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) investigates a New Year's Eve domestic incident.
It happened around 10:30 Monday night in Salesville inside a home on Broadview Circle.
The BCSO says the name of the 45-year-old victim is not yet being released. Her body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock to determine the cause and manner of death.
When the first deputy arrived on the scene, no one answered the door. He then looked into a front window and saw the woman lying on the living room floor, according to the incident report.
Once inside, they found she was unconscious but still breathing. The incident report noted that she appeared to have suffered severe trauma and her head and neck were covered in blood.
The woman was first taken to a Mountain Home hospital before being moved to another hospital in Springfield, Missouri where she died early this morning.
David Craig Smith, 53, who the BCSO says lives at the scene of the incident, was taken into custody a short time later outside a neighbor's home. He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center pending further investigation.
Deputies say investigators returned to the home this morning with a search warrant to gather evidence and also interviewed witnesses.
