For some of those contractors, when they finish the job, they will go back home with more than a paycheck.
Ask Benny Willis, a crew foreman from Florida who is in the Natural state for the second time in two years to help out utility provider Entergy.
"The people are friendly, they'll drive out of their way to come out to the crews and say thank you. That means a lot to the guys," Willis said.
His team on Monday afternoon replaced a transformer in a Little Rock neighborhood, restoring power to five households.
At one point, more than 250,000 homes and businesses in Arkansas were without electricity when freezing rain and snow hammered the state.
A spokeswoman for Entergy estimates power will be fully restored by Tuesday night.
