Homeless, Hungry Fill Little Rock Compassion Center on Xmas Day

Updated: December 25, 2012
A Little Rock pastor who runs a homeless shelter says unemployment figures don't square with what he's seeing on the streets.

Christmas Day was a good example of that.

Organizers and volunteers estimate they served 1,000 people at the Little Rock Compassion Center along West Roosevelt Road.

"I'm happy they're coming here but it makes me feel sad because they need to come here," says Pastor William Holloway.

The shelter saw a sharp rise in the number of people needing its help. Last year, the shelter served 12,000 meals for the entire month of December. Just before Christmas Day, the shelter already exceeded 14,000 meals served and had distributed hundreds of food boxes to needy families.
