McDermott Elementary School principal Scott Morgan arrived in Newtown on Monday, all the way from Arkansas.
"It makes me proud to be here," Morgan said.
He came bearing gifts: 26 ornaments, one to represent each person killed at Sandy Hook ten days earlier. The ornaments are for the families of those victims.
"Just this little gesture, if it puts a smile on their face, it's worth it," Morgan said.
After seeing the images from Newtown, Morgan found a way for his students to help.
"I told the children... 'we need to do something. What can we do?" Morgan said.
In just a few days, the kids raised hundreds of dollars to buy angels and get them engraved. Morgan promised if they met their deadline, he would hand-deliver them to Newtown on Christmas Eve. The McDermott students met that deadline, and Morgan made his way north.
"It makes me feel good that I could do this for the people of Newtown, and I hope they never have to return the favor," Morgan said.
It's a favor that gives them support during such a difficult time
"It's Christmas," Morgan said, "It was just something I had to do."
McDermott Elementary School raised more than enough money for the ornaments. They have at least $500 extra, and the donations keep coming in. Morgan says all the money will go to sandy hook elementary school.
