NWS Issues Winter Watch for North Arkansas in Advance of Storm

By: KARK
Updated: December 23, 2012

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of the northern part of the state.

The system is expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening.

A developing storm system will approach Arkansas from the west on Christmas Day, bringing a mixture of mainly snow and sleet.

At this time, the precipitation is expected to taper off late Tuesday.

Three to six inches of snow accumulation are possible in the watch area.

Higher elevations could see more.

Travel conditions are likely to become treacherous as roadways become ice and snow covered.

A Winter Storm Watch means that heavy snow is possible within the watch area.

Viewers should remain alert to rapidly changing weather conditions on Tuesday.

Chief Meteorologist Keith Monahan predicts moderate to heavy snowfall in Central Arkansas into the afternoon and evening hours on Tuesday.

Here are counties included in the watch:

Baxter, Boone, Clay, Cleburne, Conway, Craighead, Faulkner, Fulton, Greene, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Logan, Marion, Mississippi, Montgomery, Newton, Perry, Poinsett, Polk, Pope, Randolph, Scott, Searcy, Sharp, Stone, Van Buren, and White
