But these McDermott students are wrapping up something special.
"You just shake your head thinking how can this happen?" said Principal Scott Morgan. "And what can we do?"
Like most people who watched the news on Sandy Hook unfold, McDermott's principal wanted to do something.
"And I said 'Well how about if we buy ornaments?'" Morgan said.
The school's students and parents were able to raise enough money to pay for a tiny fleet of engraved angel ornaments.
"All the ornaments have McDermott Elementary school, Little Rock Arkansas on them," said Morgan, "So they know exactly where they came from."
Principal Morgan plans to place each angel on the 26 Christmas trees made to honor each victim in last week's shooting.
But there's actually one that won't be leaving Little Rock.
"We have one special angel that we keep here," said a student in the 5th grade, "That says Sandy Hook Elementary School, December 14th, 2012."
"So we'll be connected to Sandy Hook Elementary School for forever," said Morgan.
Principal Morgan wanted to include a message on each ornament, but said he couldn't find the words.
So in place of the last "O" in McDermott, there's simply a heart.
Along with the extra angel to keep here in Little Rock, students raised enough money for angels to go to Newtown's Fire and Police Department.
