Nine-Year-Old Challenges Others to Give Back with $2,000 Donation

A children's home in Morrilton receives a major donation from a nine-year-old girl with a great big heart.

Through "Operation Bookmark Happiness," Kamrie Ewing has raised more than $2,000 for the Southern Christian Home.

The donations came from community members that sponsored her efforts to make ribbon bookmarks and hair ties.

"I just thought that I have a great mom and dad and all the toys I want," Ewing said. "So, I wanted to do something to give to those who didn't."

Ewing also donated an additional $2,000 she raised to a local child cancer patient to help with treatment costs.

"I think she's a huge inspiration just for our kids to hear that and know they can make as big a difference as she did for us," said Kristin Bunch, Southern Christian Home's assistant director.

And Ewing believes anyone can make the difference she's been capable of creating.

"If I'm nine years old, then a 30 year old can make a difference too," Ewing said.

Ewing is also raising funds to donate bookmarks to the entire Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

To contribute to her cause, you can mail donations to:
