Committee Urges DHS to Settle with Family of 9-Year-Old Killed by Soccer Goal

A legislative committee chairman is saying a majority of members believe a state agency violated its own policies that may have contributed to the death of a 9-year-old boy.
The family of Jonathan Nelson, who died after a soccer goal fell on him at his school, appealed to the committee after the State Claims Commission declined to hear their claim.
While no vote was taken on the appeal, the committee urged the Department of Human Services and the family to come to a settlement.
