Bielema Already Knows How to Call the Hogs, Grew up on Pig Farm

By: The Razorback Nation

There shouldn't be any concern about the new head football coach of the Razorbacks knowing how to call the Hogs.

Bret Bielema, 42, grew up on an Illinois (Prophetstown) pig farm, so you could easily say that pigs/hogs are in his blood.

When he went off to college, Bielema thought he'd return to the family farm, but once he stepped onto a football field as a walk-on, he never looked back.

Those details about Bielema's background come from a 2006 article published by a Madison, Wisconsin newspaper in a profile about the coach one year after he took the helm at the University of Wisconsin.

Bielema grew up watching his father manage the hog farm, tagging along when his dad visited pig shows. In fact, Bielema's first journey outside Illinois was to attend a pig show in Minnesota.

In 1988, Bielema went off to college in Iowa, playing as a walk on for the Hawkeyes. He would later earn a scholarship and be named a team captain, providing a firm foundation for a career in college football.
