The graffiti amounting to thousands of dollars in damage was discovered Monday night at Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 365 North.
The markings were painted in white all along the north side of the church building, the PCSO said.
The markings were described in the incident report as: the letters "KKK" and a swastika symbol, the symbol referred to as "Lighting Bolts" along with what is referred to as the "Stormfront Cross."
The Sheriff's Office is checking the surveillance camera of a business across the street from the church for possible clues.
Church officials say the damage will cost about $8,000 to repair (clean windows and repaint).
It was only last month that the church had its first service in a new sanctuary built after an April 2011 tornado destroyed its former building.
