The finalists for 2013 Arkansas Teacher of the Year gathered at the state capitol on Wednesday.

Each one was recognized for their accomplishments and the work they do for schools across the state.

A former winner of the award noted the importance of these educators and how much they deserve the recognition.

"Today, this is not about their students' life stories, this is about a remarkable life story you're getting to write today in your book, and we're glad to be a part of this," 2009 Teacher of the Year recipient Susan Wagner told the finalists.

This year's winner, Alexia Weimer, is a kindergarten teacher at Avondale Elementary School in the Marion School District.
