The Vatican puts the brakes on a proposed buyout of Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs to Capella Healthcare.

In statement released to KARK, Mercy Hospital said,

"Rather than provide approval or denial of our petition at this time, the Vatican has asked that Mercy engage in further discussions with Bishop Anthony Taylor to address his concerns about ongoing care for the poor, the continuation of the Ethical and Religious Directives and the impact of the transition on co-workers."

Bishop Taylor is over the catholic church's Little Rock diocese -- and had previously voiced concern about the hospital failing to advocate for catholic principals.
