Vet's Quick Thinking Helps Shooting Victim After Robbery

On a day set aside for vets, a former Marine sprang into action, possibly saving the life of a man robbed and shot in Little Rock Monday.

You may remember this veteran. He's no stranger to bad news.
   
Jeff Foley just happened to be inside the Arvest Bank on Chenal Parkway Monday. His wife was waiting outside in the car. She ran in and told him someone had been shot.

Foley came out, and using his daughter's scarf, came to the rescue.

Bullet marks still mar the sidewalk where Foley saw 38 year old Eid Mohamed.

"He was in excruciating pain, just screaming, 'oh my god, oh my god.' I tried grabbing his hand, saying you are going to be alright," said Foley.

Robbed by several men, Mohamed had been shot in the leg.

Shell casings and blood were things Foley was all too familiar with.

 "It was like I was back in the war, I would have done the same thing," he said.

A Gulf-war veteran Marine trained in medical response, Foley instinctively made a make-shift tourniquet.

"He wasn't going to die on the sidewalk if I had anything to say about it," said Foley.

Just thirty days earlier, Foley and his family suffered trauma of their own. Someone had set fire to their Pulaski County home, so badly burning two of their prize bull-dogs, they had to be put down.

"Maybe my dogs put me here to help this man, I don't know," Foley said.

He won't call himself a hero. He says simply, he was just doing a Marine's duty.

 "I would die for you, the cameraman anyone here and I would still do it today, that's just how I roll," he said.

According to friends Mohamed is still in the hospital, but recovering well.

Deputies haven't caught the person who started the fire at the Foley's home.

Jeff Foley says he thinks it was god that put him here in this spot yesterday .

Little Rock have made one arrest in this shooting. Milton Parker faces several charges.

He's behind bars on half a million dollars bond.
