A former Parks and Recreation employee in Benton pleaded guilty to several charges after taking money from a concession stand for a girls softball program.

Officials say 58-year-old Kitty L. Smith took proceeds from the concession stand at Tyndall Park and falsified spreadsheets to minimize the amount of her theft.

After discrepancies were noticed during the 2011 season, the City of Benton hired an accounting firm to review the concession stand books and found an estimated loss of $6,445 in concession stand money.

Smith pleaded guilty to computer fraud, a class C felony, as well as falsifying business records and theft of property, both misdemeanors.

She was sentenced to 36 months of probation, a $750 fine and court costs of $150, and 40 hours of community service.

Smith must also pay restitution to the City of Benton.
