A Little Rock woman is fighting for her life in the hospital after being hit by a car while riding her bike.

Little Rock police told KARK the collision happened Saturday afternoon, on Kavanaugh near Terry's Finer Foods in The Heights.

Officers say 65-year-old Diane McConnell was hit, then became caught up in the tires of a car driven by 52-year-old Ronald Ward.

Police haven't charged Ward with anything, but are waiting on results of a urine sample.

McConnell---we're told---was wearing a helmet and reflective gear.

Like it or not, Peter D., Bicyclists are PEOPLE and they do have the same amount of right of way on our streets as cars do. Do you run over everyone you think is rude and arrogant? Automobile drivers should learn the rules of the road.... don't hit people you are trying to pass. As a motorist you do not have the right to pass a bicyclist in the same lane as they are riding in, that is their lane. This woman is fighting for her life because some one was too impatient and tried to pass her too closely. I'm saddened for her family and friends and sad that someone would be as insensitive as you are and post such a cruel and bigoted comment as you have.

With out more facts, I cannot comment on this specific incident, but I must note that the bicyclists in this area are rude and arrogant. I've seen too many incidents in whihich the "entitled" use thier lack of identificaion to allow a lack of responsibility. Cyclists should have license plates to insure that they too must respect the rules of the road.
