More Big Changes at Big Rock Planned Prior to Thanksgiving Holiday
By: News Release
Updated: November 9, 2012
Beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 13, and lasting through Friday, Nov. 16, weather permitting, motorists can expect periodic, temporary lane closures between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Financial Center Parkway and Shackleford Road inside the Big Rock Interchange construction zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and identify alternate routes during these four days.
This work will, at times, reduce travel to one lane in each direction on Financial Center Parkway (between Shackleford Road and Embassy Suites Drive,) and Shackleford Road (between Hermitage Road and West Markham Street.) The lane closures are necessary so that crews can finish paving new sections of roadway that will tie into the future I-630 overpass of Shackleford Road.
This phase is the first of several that workers will complete before the busy holiday travel season gets underway. Between Nov. 15 and Nov. 20, additional work will be performed requiring, at different times, multiple lane and ramp closures throughout the Big Rock Interchange.
Information on other upcoming phases will be released as it becomes available.
"Our goal is to have no changes in the traffic pattern through the Big Rock Interchange between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, to minimize any disruption to holiday travel," said Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department Director (AHTD) Scott Bennett. "But to do that, we need to get some work wrapped up. Drivers have done a great job of avoiding the area and using alternative routes when we've asked them do so. We hope that continues as we complete this work and get ready for a busy travel season."
The $124 million interchange modification project will continue through 2014. For more information, go to www.ArkansasHighways.com.
