The Board of Directors of the Little Rock School District holds a special meeting in conjunction with its regularly scheduled agenda meeting tonight.

While most meetings usually start at six o'clock, tonight's meeting begins at eight in deference to the planned family hour (visitation service) for a board member who died earlier this month.

The service for Michael "Pete" Peterson is tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock.

Peterson's funeral service is Friday morning at 11 o'clock, also at the church.

Peterson, 63, had retired from LRSD in 2010 after 38 years, serving as a coach, vice principal and principal, but his love for education and commitment to students led him to a successful bid as a LRSD board member. Peterson was elected to his first term, representing Zone 6, in September.

It's not yet known who will replace him on the board.

The agenda for tonight's special board meeting includes:
  • A resolution honoring Michael Peterson
  • Zone 6 Board Vacancy Requirements
  • The Annual Report
  • Professional Development
  • Employee Hearing
