pregnantandhealthsymbol2007-10-05-1191616696.jpgThere's a new warning out about pregnant women and fish. Most have been avoiding fish, as recommened, but, some experts say, that's the problem. Two years after the FDA advised pregnant women to limit fish consumption, a prominent group of health professionals says 90% of women aren't eating enough. The FDA recommends no more than 2 to 3 servings a week, but the national healthy mothers, healthy babies coalition says women should be eating at least that much, maybe more. The concern has been about pregnant women getting too much mercury. "A lot of the concern about mercury is unfounded. To date, there's not a single case of fetal toxicity linked to fish intake or mercury in fish intake," says Dr. Ashley Roman The group's review finds not only does selenium in fish fight a buildup of mercury, but eating too little robs women of critical omega-3 fatty acids... brain food for both mother and baby.
