Pulaski Co. Jail Asks Municipalities to Help Cover Costs for Additional Beds

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: November 1, 2012
There are 80 additional beds at Pulaski County Jail that could go unused unless cities decide to commit some cash to cover the costs.

County Judge Buddy Villines sent a letter on Wednesday to five local mayors asking that they budget to include expenses for the additions.

A financial breakdown shows the county cannot cover the costs alone.

The jail houses inmates from all of the cities and operates at close to or over capacity on a regular basis.

Without additional beds, that could mean inmates are released early.

The judge has not received a response from any of the five mayors contacted thus far.
